Feelings run high

On 12 January we held a ‘Big Read Sit In’ at Oundle Library to protest about Northamptonshire County Council (NCC) plans to close more than half the county’s public libraries. Nearly 200 people of all ages came along, including local MP, Tom Pursglove.

Local residents want Oundle Library to continue to operate as part of NCC's statutory library service - managed and maintained by NCC and run by paid staff.

We believe NCC’s “consultation” has been flawed – poorly managed, communicated and publicised, and the projected savings significantly overstated.

Everyone at our sit-in also felt strongly that the proposals unfairly target rural communities in Northamptonshire.

There are 57 elected NCC councillors but only 10 (the Cabinet) will make the final decision. And so we wait.
