Scenes Around Oundle 2025 calendar
The 2025 Scenes Around Oundle calendar produced by the Friends of Oundle Library is now on sale.
We’ve been producing the calendar every year since 2013 and it’s an essential part of our fundraising, which enables us to provide additional support to Oundle Library during the year. Over the years the calendar has become a fixture on many people’s Christmas lists, often to send as a gift to friends and family.
It really does help
It’s thanks to all the local businesses who sponsor pages in the calendar that every penny of the money we raise from sales can fund all sorts of ‘extras’ at Oundle Library. And in the coming months that’s going to be especially important as we replace items that were lost or damaged in the fire in July. But even before the fire, so far this year the calendar had already helped us to pay for all sorts of things – from craft materials and children’s entertainers, to plants and supplies for the garden and even to repair the garden shed where the gardening volunteers keep their equipment. Without the calendar none of that could have been done.
Amazing photography
The photographs in the calendar have been taken by members of Oundle U3A’s Photography and Composition group. All of them are talented and enthusiastic amateur photographers who take pictures of our town and its surrounding countryside and villages all year round.
‘Oundle Library is a community asset, where you can borrow books, attend groups and activities, use the internet, renew bus passes and Blue Badges, and even to visit the Barclays Bank Customer Services team,’ says FOOL Chair, Helen Toone. ‘But not everyone realises how large the area is that Oundle Library serves. Regular customers travel in from villages as far afield as Easton-on-the-Hill and Luddington-in-the-Brook and if you look at a map you’ll see the scope this offers to photographers in terms of landscapes, landmarks, architecture and wildlife – all the things we try to showcase in our calendar each year.’
Voting and selection
To choose the pictures for our calendar, every member of the photography group was asked to submit photos for consideration, and after a lot of deliberation these were shortlisted for the FOOL committee to make the final selection.
‘Choosing the photos was really difficult,’ says Helen. ‘We wanted the images to be of scenes anyone would be happy to have on their wall for a month, and we think we’ve picked pictures that show Oundle and its surrounding area at its best.’
