Why we raise money
Have you ever wondered why Friends of Oundle Library (FOOL) needs to raise money? FOOL exists to support Oundle Library and, as well as raising awareness of what the library offers, we also pay for things the library otherwise couldn’t afford. That might be anything from new furniture to having the windows cleaned, or buying plants for the garden. Here are just some of the things the FOOL committee has paid for in recent years.
Entertainers
We often pay for special children’s events and entertainers, which might be anything from magic shows to creative or craft workshops.
The garden
The garden used to be a wasteland. Now it’s a place everyone can enjoy. FOOL pays for the equipment, pots, compost, plants, seeds etc. and our volunteers keep the garden looking lovely.
Equipment
Over the years we’ve bought all sorts of equipment from book trolleys, trolleys for craft materials and crockery, to kitchen and catering equipment.
Furniture
In the past we’ve paid for big furniture items such as reading tables and chairs, armchairs, stackable chairs etc. Most recently we bought new furniture for the Children’s Library.
Craft materials and supplies
As you might guess, the library gets through quite a lot of craft materials, so we sometimes pay for extra stationery and supplies such as card, glue and glitter, or special craft materials.
Furnishings and extras
Over the years we’ve bought everything from picture frames and book shelf dividers to mobile shelving units. Recently, we paid for the weatherproof notice board outside the library’s front door.
Refreshments
FOOL regularly pays for cakes, biscuits, drinks and all sorts of refreshments for library and FOOL events – as and when they are needed.
Prizes
What’s a competition without prizes? We are happy to provide funds for prizes such as trophies and book tokens, as well as sweets and small prizes.
Annual costs
Every year FOOL pays for the windows to be cleaned and for the council to collect the garden waste. We do this because we want our library to look lovely.
