‘A book group, but not as you know it.’

The starting point for our book group is that we all believe life is too short to read a book you don’t enjoy. Quite simply, we love reading, so if we’re not enjoying something we put it aside without a pang. Reading should never be a chore!

An oddity?

Perhaps our group is a bit different because we only read crime fiction. But as that genre embraces everything from police procedurals, thrillers and espionage, to psychological thrillers and cosy crime we’re never short of something to read or chat about.

We don’t have a set reading list, preferring just to discuss the books and authors we’ve enjoyed each month. Sometimes we’ll have a ‘reading theme’ to follow, although it’s optional. That could be something like Scandi Crime, for example, or we might pick a letter from the alphabet and choose our books based on that letter. Occasionally, if we’re lucky, we’re sent a box of books by a publisher so we can all read the same novel.

All sorts

Whatever we’re reading, we enjoy wide-ranging discussions at our meetings because of course we don’t all like the same things! While some of us search out psychological thrillers or crime noir, others prefer espionage or murder mysteries and police procedurals.

Reading and writing

Since we started our book group some of us have come to enjoy writing book reviews for this website, but it’s not obligatory. We do, however, post a blog after each of our meetings with a selection of titles we recommend.
